Mochtar
Riady Riady was born Lie Mo Tie on May 12, 1929 in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. He founded Lippo Group in the 1950s. He led Lippo Bank to become one of the top five biggest private banks in Indonesia. Riady also owns the Lippo Bank of California. In 1975, Riady was recruited by Liem Sioe Liong to join Bank Central Asia. When Riady assumed office, the bank’s asset was at Rp 12.8B. When he left in 1990, its assets have ballooned to more than Rp 5 trillion. In 1991, the Lippo Group expanded into property with the establishment of Lippo Land Development. Under this, elite housing developments, beachside condominiums, office complexes were built. Sons Stephen and James control Lippo Group’s operations in Asia and United States.
